Halloween is less than a week away! Can you believe it?

Are you prepping your costumes and stocking up on delicious candies to pass out to the neighborhood kids? Halloween, although spooky, is a fun time to get the community together to celebrate a holiday. However, fun and games can still be had, but so must safety precautions.

Here are important safety tips to remember on Halloween night, brought to you by the Bexar County Police Department.

    • If possible, use face paint and makeup instead of masks for your child’s costume. Masks can limit your child’s vision and make it difficult to breath.
    • Never let your children go into a stranger’s house or even ring a doorbell for treats unless you are accompanying them and say it is okay. Stay with your children at all times, or at least have them in your line of sight.
    • Always look both ways when crossing the street. Hold little children’s’ hands to prevent them from darting out in front of moving cars.
    • Sadly, we live in an age where you have to take precautions no matter what. People don’t always have the best of intentions. Check your child’s candy at the end of the night and throw away all candy that is not in its original wrapper, or looks as though it has been opened.

Of course, these tips don’t only apply to Halloween night. These are great things to keep in mind on a daily basis to keep you and your family safe from harm.
