San Antonio Area’s Top School Districts

Home buyers say school districts are among the key factors in their home-buying decision. Living near quality schools contributes to better opportunities for your children, as well as for selling your house when the time comes. High-performance school districts can help provide higher resale value for your house. Plus, homes in good districts tend to spend less time on the market, too.

What are some of San Antonio’s best school districts for your children? With nearly 20 different school districts, San Antonio offers some of the top schools in the state.

    Alamo Heights Independent School District

With only 6 campuses that make up the district, Alamo Heights Independent School District is one of the smallest districts in the state, but it makes a big impression on San Antonio and Alamo Heights residents alike. It continues to have a Texas-sized reputation as being one of the best quality education districts in our city with over 95% of its high school graduates attending college.

Apart from basic studies like Math and English, students can take a variety of different in-depth courses like forensic science, astronomy, yoga, and outdoor education to contribute to a well-rounded curriculum. Alamo Heights HS has received the ACT College Readiness Award, an award given only to the top 5% of schools nationally!

If your children are looking to improve their athletic skills, and potentially play on the college level, this school district can help. AHISD has several nationally ranked sports teams, including football, soccer, and tennis.

    Boerne Independent School District

Being a small town doesn’t mean their education is limited. In fact, nothing can be further from the truth than Boerne ISD, a nationally acclaimed district. This school district draws students from a portion of Kendall County, Fair Oaks Ranch, and a section of northern Bexar County and educates more than 7,000 students. BISD includes 3 high schools, two middle schools, and five elementary schools, most which have been regionally and nationally recognized. For example, Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary was recently recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and one of the top 50 elementary schools in Texas.

Like AHISD, Boerne schools excel not only in education, but also in athletics. Many of the Boerne teams have brought home state and national titles every year.

    Lackland Independent School District

Only containing 2 schools in this district, Lackland Independent School District is centered in West San Antonio; one school houses PK students, while the other houses K through 12th graders. Most students come from military families living and working in and around Lackland Air Force Base.

Stacey Junior-Senior High School of Lackland ISD is an accredited public school by the Texas Education Agency.

    North East Independent School District

With 78 school campuses making up this district, NEISD is definitely one of the larger ones in the area, however, they have maintained excellent standards in education for a while now. According to state standards, 82% of students in this district are considered proficient in math and/or reading. All campuses in North East are fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency.

Out of nearly 15,000 school districts in the country, College Board announced North East as District of the Year in 2013 for being a national leader in growing its Advanced Placement courses while improving exam scores.

    Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District

One of the fastest-growing districts in our area, SCUCISD provides a small-town atmosphere for it’s students with quality and personalized classroom education.

Fun Fact: The district’s name may just be the longest school district name in Texas!

This district is currently home to 8 elementary schools, 3 intermediate schools, 2 junior high schools, and 3 high schools. The employees of SCUCISD are some of the highest paid school employees in the state which helps improve employee retention not often seen in other districts.

The Castillo Group was wonderful to work with and walked us through the process of buying our first home! They were always quick to respond, even to panicked late-night text messages. Would recommend to friends and family. Thanks so much!
